How to simplifying a data visualisation ?
As part of the Udacity Data Visualisation Degree I am tasked to find a visualisation and improve upon it.
The data I have identified to work on improvement is as follows. The data is called Data assets and data culture on makeovermonday, a data visualisation resource website where each week a new data visualisation is posted and users are encouraged to improve upon it.

The original data visualisation is part of a report on Data Assets and Data Culture. See here for the source article that includes this report. https://www.dataiq.co.uk/market-insight/data-assets-and-data-culture.
Why I think this visualisation is bad
The visualisation makes it hard to compare the levels of different categories. For example, if we wanted to just know the top 3–4 industries, we have to look in detail at the numbers in the list.
Exploring the data we don’t see any biases.
Our analysis with new Dashboard
Problem Statement: What are the top industries in which the respondents are situated in
New dashboard:
Why this dashboard is better?
We have provided more simply and clear view of the main industries of the respondents, rather than relying on looking at an unordered list of numbers.
Chart choice: the size of area for each industry represent their % of total, and it’s easy to see which industries had more respondents.
Colours also represent the size of industries out of total, the darker the colour the larger the size of industry.
